John Worthington
John Worthington is one of the pioneers of digital media delivery and reproduction and a veteran of numerous Silicon Valley companies, including Apple, MusicNet, and Digital Origin. At Apple, Worthington was a project leader for Apple MIDI Manager and Sound Manager, as well as QuickTime, a media streaming technology that has grown to become one of the industry standards. In addition,, Worthington is a producer, engineer, and label owner. Worthington has released several CDs featuring prominent New Orleans musicians on his Lakefront Digital imprint.

John Worthington has been on the forefront of advancements in the world of media technology for over 20 years. He has held senior level engineering and management positions for many Silicon Valley companies. At Apple Computer, Worthington was the project leader for the development of QuickTime, which kick started the desktop video revolution and has been downloaded over 350 million times. He also developed Apple?s MIDI Manager and contributed to the development of the Macintosh Sound Manager and the AIFF file format. All of which contributed to Apple?s receipt of a Grammy Award for technical achievement in 2001. Post Apple, Worthington helped pioneer online music sales as Chief Technical Officer at MusicNet and developed desktop video tools for Digital Origin, Media 100, and Discreet. Worthington maintains an active creative career as a media artist and musician. He?s performed and shown his work in North America, Europe, and Japan. His current works feature the Gizmotron, an instrument of his own design that controls to a network of computers to create soundscapes and visual imagery. As a producer and engineer, Worthington has released several CDs featuring prominent New Orleans musicians on his Lakefront Digital label. Worthington is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and the Audio Engineering Society. He has been with the College of Music Faculty since 2005
