Olga Stefan is the executive director for the Chicago Artists Coalition. The Chicago Artists Coalition is a visual arts organization whose mission is to fulfill four basic needs: the education of the general public regarding the value of the visual arts to society; the advocacy of visual arts issues for members and the art community; the provision of professional and educational services for artists and the arts community; the improvement of the environment in which artists live and work.

In this excerpt from an SEA conference lecture on becoming a professional in the visual arts, Olga Stefan of the Chicago Artists Coalition discusses what "professional" actually means, and whether it really strictly refers to those who make money on the sale of their works. She also cites some of the resources available to artists in the midst of the creative process, such as artist residencies.
