Ralph Lalama
Ralph Lalama is a member of the jazz studies faculty at New York University’s Steinhart School. An accomplished saxophonist and clarinetist, he has performed with the bands of Buddy Rich and Woody Herman. He currently plays with the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and the Joe Lovano Nonet in addition to playing and recording under his own name.

Description:

Ralph Lalama from NYU talks about the benefit of playing in ensembles. He first starts off by giving tips about playing in an ensemble and the importance of listening to all of the people you are playing with. Ralph then goes on to say that a musician should find an artist whose style they admire and try to imitate that person when starting off in ensemble jazz music.
