Description: In November 2007, Loyola University, New Orleans hosted a series of workshops and discussions by NARAS (The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) on how to survive and build a career in today’s music industry. In this keynote address, Bryan Calhoun, founder and CEO of StrategusPro, addresses the conference on recent changes in the music industry that have affected how independent artists do business. He discusses how basic changes in the way Americans consume entertainment, new avenues for recording and distributing music, and a simultaneous jump in the number of album releases and decline in overall album sales, have conspired to put the music industry as a whole in its current situation. He then shares a number of valuable strategies that an independent artist can use to build a successful and lasting career in today's evolving music industry - however that artist defines success.
