George Maloian
In his long and varied career, George Maloian has worked on all sides of the music business – as a manager at a major record label, at a music publishing firm, as a music supervisor, and most recently as Key Account Executive at APM Music. In this role, he partners with the company’s largest and most prestigious accounts to find the right music for their marketing campaigns. He is also a musician, and has a degree in composition.

George Maloian, Key Account Executive with APM Music, discusses his long and varied career in the music industry working for labels, publishers and music libraries, and discusses the ins and outs of how copyrighted musical works are licensed for use in other projects. He addresses the logistics of how a work is cleared for use, how fee negotiations happen, how sample clearances are done, how music supervisors find the right song for their project, and more. He also shares his thoughts on the state of the music industry and the kind of skills and interests that would most benefit a young person starting their career in the field.
