Music Educator Profile: Professor and Trumpet Player Jens Lindemann

Jens Lindemann
Renowned trumpet soloist Jens Lindemann is former lead trumpet player for the Canadian Brass, and is currently Professor of Trumpet at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is widely regarded as one of the finest soloists in the instrument’s history, and has appeared on concert stages worldwide, from New York to the Great Wall of China. He has recorded albums for BMG and EMI, and in his concert appearances has been working to redefine the idea of a concert artist through innovations in both musicality and stagecraft. Lindemann is a graduate of Juilliard.

Jens Lindemann, renowned trumpet soloist and Professor of Trumpet at UCLA, introduces himself and his department, and shares a number of tips derived from experience about life as a working musician, from how to choose a music school to how to deal with the rigors of professional life, and about playing the trumpet in specific – how to choose a mouthpiece and instrument, how to breathe, why being versatile is necessary, and, most importantly, how to play trumpet and not “sound like a meathead.”
