    John Corigliano
John Corigliano is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential American composers of the last half century. The son of long-time New York Philharmonic concertmaster John Corigilano, Sr., he studied at Columbia and the Manhattan School of Music. Throughout his career, his guiding philosophy has been the importance of communication and audience accessibility, no matter how challenging a particular passage might be to play. As such, he is among the few contemporary composers to earn widespread notoriety outside the world of contemporary classical music. Among Corigliano’s many awards are five Grammys, an Oscar, a Grawemeyer Award, and a Pulitzer Prize. He continues to write for the orchestra and smaller ensembles, and teaches composition at Lehman College and The Juilliard School.
