Loyola Student Interview: Kevin Coogan of Stella Management on ASCAP versus BMI
Kevin Coogan
Kevin Coogan is a 20-year veteran of the music industry and a graduate of Loyola University, New Orleans. Initially working for Cashbox magazine and MCA Records, he eventually left the corporate music world to pursue a career in artist management. In the course of his management career he has worked with artists and with composers, and has also produced workshops with ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers). He currently heads Stella Management, and has two film composing clients–husband and wife Eric Whitacre and Hila Plitmann. |

Description: Loyola student Kelvin Brown speaks with Kevin Coogan of Stella Management about the history of both ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) and BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated). Coogan describes the “follow the dollar” system implemented within ASCAP that ensures songwriters are getting paid fairly, versus the “all in” system at other performing rights organizations.
