If I had to sum up one quality that every superstar artist that I’ve known I would say that it is this focused drive on getting their goals. I think that’s more important than talent. I think that the artists that really make it are the ones that passionately want it and don’t get discouraged and walk through any obstacles and brick walls that get put in front of them and keep pushing at it. Because that’s what separates people that are successful. It’s not just limited to artists; it’s limited to anybody that wants to be a success in what they’re doing. They have to be committed to it, passionate about it and willing to do whatever it takes to get themselves to their goals. And that’s the one quality I find in common with all the superstars I’ve known.

I think if you’re a young lawyer and want to be in the business I think it’s a matter of persistence and keeping at it. and I must say I believe, in retrospect, it took me much longer to get where I wanted to go than I would have liked and I watch people around me shooting past me and felt real jealous about it at the time and yet most of those people interestingly enough are not doing what I’m doing anymore. And I’m not saying that’s not by their own choice, they may have burned out, they may have found out once they got there it wasn’t what they hoped for, but I’ve just been sort of a slow, steady mover and it took longer than I would have liked. But I feel like when I got there it built it on a solid base and I had set backs and disappointments like everybody does but I just sort of kept going around with a faith that if I kept doing it right and doing it the only way I could. I had to do it the way that was comfortable for me. I can’t do it like other people do it. So I had to do it the way that felt right for me. I think everybody does and it may take longer but if you really want it and you keep going you’ll get there.
