Nancy Shankman: Community Involvement (1 min)
Students in New York City, you would really be remiss if you did not take them to take advantage of all the rich cultural opportunities that we have in New York City: concerts and theatre and opera. Even if it’s a small town, there’s a church that does wonderful music every holiday. Even with distance learning there’s a lot of opportunity for students to engage in not only observing but hands on work with students from elsewhere across the country. Then some of the organizations in New York City and the big cities that they are near reach out to the smaller areas and invite them to participate in their master classes, in their performances. So there’s always something happening and the more a music teacher can involve her students or his students in the world of music outside the classroom, the richer the education will be.
