Sanford Hinderlie, Professor of Music and Director of the Music Technology Center at Loyola University, talks about his background. His involvement in the music industry began in Europe. He then worked in Texas and now New Orleans. He plays jazz, promotes concerts, owns his own record company, and composes MIDI music for television and films. Hinderlie explains that his experience has helped teach Loyola recording classes. Loyola introduces students to recording. Hinderlie explains that Loyola's Mac Lab has some of the finest equipment. It has a lot of software, synthesizers, and computers. He points out that technology is changing all the time. The Mac Lab is updated every three years. Hinderlie also mentions that studios are difficult to setup. Also in this segment, he discusses his interest in recording equipment. He began with basic amplification at gigs. Then he started to manipulate sounds. At graduate school, he took more advanced electronic music courses. Loyola's Music Industry Studies program is covered as well. Hinderlie explains that it's a broad general program that allows students to get a little bit of everything in the music business. Students can pick and choose what they'd like to hone in on as a possible career. It was started because there was a need in the New Orleans community to educate people. The program is also a top contender nationally.
