New York-based jazz pianist, composer, and educator Barry Harris is the founder of The Jazz Cultural Theatre and a tireless advocate for the “classic jazz” style of musicians like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Coleman Hawkins. Harris has received numerous awards, including an honorary Doctorate from Northwestern University, a Living Jazz Legacy award from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Association, and an American Jazz Masters Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as a Manhattan Borough President Award for Excellence in recognition of the work he has done on behalf of jazz and jazz education for the city’s schoolchildren.
