Darrale Jones, VP of A and R at Atlantic Records, talks about the challenges of working with artists. He decribes the different approaches he takes with new artists and developed artists. Darrale explains how he gets involved with a new artist and his methods of deciding if the artist is commercially viable by spending time getting to know the artist. He then gives an example of working with Usher on how he deals with a developed artist and the way in which he gives constructive critcism. Darale then explains what the A and R job entails and how it effects the rest of the label's operations in dealing with an artist.
