Stumble Upon This!
by: Debbie Cavalier

I was recently turned on to a very cool web site by my uncle, Michael Gold of West Gold Editorial, called Stumbleupon.

According to the Oxford American Dictionary on my Mac’s dashboard, the phrase “Stumble upon” means to “find or encounter by chance.” Stumbleupon’s community helps to make your web-based searches meaningful and purposeful, leaving little to “chance.”

Stumbleupon is a downloadable toolbar that beds into your browser and gives you the chance to surf through thousands pages that have been stumbled upon and rated by other web-users. Click the Stumble! icon on your toolbar and Stumbleupon will send you sites and pages based on the topics that you choose.

As you Stumble! you click the thumbs icon (up or down) to tell the system what you like (or dislike). When you Stumble! a page or site, first thumb it, then click on the bubble icon to see reviews and comments made by other Stumblers, and to add one of your own.

On Stumbleupon, the term “Friends” means something very specific: Friends are other stumblers that you select because you like their pages. The system uses your choice of Friends to help select the sites and pages that you see when you Stumble!.

There are all kinds of tricks and tools that Stumbleupon provides. For an in-depth look at its functionality and options, visit the help page.

After just a short time researching the topic of “music education” on Stumbleupon, I found a host of unique, helpful, and useful websites that I never “stumbled upon” before with Google searches. I’m hooked and plan to be happily be "stumbling upon" things of interest to me on the Internet for a long time to come!

Check it out! www.stumbleupon.com
