| There are lots of great resources for free music lessons online and the available options seem to grow daily. I recommend that you first stop by Berklee Shares. Berklee Shares is an educational Web site comprised of nearly 200 individual, self-contained, free music lessons developed by Berklee College of Music faculty and alumni. These lessons are available in the form of interactive PDFs, QuickTime videos, and MP3 files in the areas of music production, music business, theory, harmony, ear training, guitar, improvisation, and more. Michael Menduno’s article entitled Online Music Education Resource Guide lists over a dozen Web sites containing free music lessons, and Stefani Langol’s article Top 25 Web sites for Music Education , contains a host of free music education resources including free lessons in music theory and ear training. Of course, You Tube is a source for all kinds of music-related video content including lessons. For the best results, be very specific in your search criteria. For example “music lessons” yields an array of eclectic results containing links to a number of videos that have nothing to do with learning music. However, the search phrase “music lessons Berklee” yields a number of very high-quality lessons. Experiment with your search terms to find more of what you are looking for.
And finally, search “free music lessons online” with Google, Yahoo, and Stumble Upon. For more information about Stumbleupon, see my blog post regarding this interest-driven search tool. Enjoy exploring the collection of free online resources contained in this post, and have fun discovering new ones. Please be sure to share your findings!
